Why WordPress is the Best Content Management System (CMS) for SEO

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a CMS or Content Management System. That means that it is software designed to create your website and manage your content, for example, pages, posts, text, images and videos.

WordPress is 100% Free.

If you have Web Hosting and a domain name, you can download WordPress now from: https://wordpress.org/

WordPress is open source software written in the programming language PHP and it has a MySQL database.

Almost 60% of Websites that have a CMS use WordPress so it is the most popular website CMS in the world.

Large organisations that use WordPress include:  Sony Music, The Walt Disney Company and IGA Supermarkets.

Here are 10 reasons why I believe WordPress is the best Content Management System for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

1) WordPress has thousands of themes

A theme is a collection of templates that define the style and appearance of a theme. You can have themes designed for Blogs, Local Businesses, News and Magazines and e-Commerce to name a few..

Many of these themes are ideal for SEO including themes like Divi, Astra and Ocean WP.

There are thousands of free themes so you can build a website for pretty much nothing once you have paid for your domain name and hosting.

There are also thousands of premium themes with extra features.

2) WordPress has thousands of plugins

Plugins are like apps of a mobile phone, which give a website additional functionality. There are plugins for SEO, Website Security, Backups, Image Compression, Caching and to measure Website Traffic.

There are thousands of plugins both free and premium plugins.

Popular Plugins include:

  • Yoast SEO
  • Monster Insights (Google Analytics)
  • Updraft Plus
  • Wordfence Security
  • WP Fastest Cache
  • Woo Commerce

3) Great for user experience

User experience is a critical factor for SEO. A website must be designed is a user-friendly way to allow a website visitor to find what they are looking for quickly and easily or they will go elsewhere.

This reduces bounce-rate which is visitors leaving your website, immediately they find it as it does not give them what they are looking for.

Google will penalize sites with a high bounce rate in their Search Engine Rankings.

4) Mobile Responsive

This means that the design of the current version of WordPress and most themes are ideally suited to be viewed on mobile devices, such as tablets and phoners.

However due to how the website is designed, there many be further work to do to optimize the website for mobile.

You can check here to see if your website is mobile-optimised:

If it fails the test, get in touch and we’ll fix it for you.

This is a very important Google Ranking factor and critical to your customers as almost 60% of local website searches are now on a mobile device.

5) Can be Optimised for Fast Page Speeds

Fast page speeds (page loading times) are a very important Google Ranking Factor.

A slow website will frustrate users, increase your bounce rate (visitors leaving your website immediately) and push you down the Google rankings.

WordPress has some excellent Site Speed optimization plugins, for example:

  • WP Rocket (a premium plugin)
  • ShortPixel Image Optimiser

6) Optimise your technical and On-Page SEO Easily

There are various ways of doing this. One way it with the Yoast SEO plugin.

This allows you to:

  • Create an XML Sitemap
  • Submit your XML Sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
  • Manage other technical SEO issues like your robots.txt file and canonicals

You can also easily Manage and Optimise:

  • Meta Tiles
  • Meta Descriptions
  • On-Page Keyword Optimisation

WordPress is excellent for optimising SEO on your Website.

7) Optimise your Images

Images are essential to good web design as they make articles more visually appealing to read by breaking up text.

WordPress allows you to:

  • Insert Images Easily
  • Resize Images
  • Create Alt-Text for Images for the Google crawlers (bots) to read
  • Compress Images (with the help of plugins) to improve page speeds.

8) Integrate Your Website with social media

Social Media is massive and it helps you promote your business and content with potential and existing customers.

WordPress themes and plugins give website visitors options to:

  • Have Social Media buttons on your site
  • Share articles on their Social Media feeds
  • Access your Social Media from your website

You can also automate your Social Media campaigns.

9) Integrate Your Website with Other Third Party Software

WordPress can be integrated with many third-party software tools, such as:

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Search Console
  • Bing Webmaster Tools
  • Google Tag Manager
  • Cloudflare and similar Content Delivery Networks
  • CallRail call monitoring software
  • Mailchimp (and other email marketing and opt-in tools)
  • Paypal, Stripe and various ecommerce facilities

10) WordPress Settings are easy to Understand and Configure

WordPress settings allow you to set up the basics for SEO.

One example is that you can customise your permalinks (URLs) to include keywords exactly as you require.

In my opinion WordPress is the number one website creation and Content Management System for websites that want to rank on Google.
